I spoke to Boronia Travel and they said that the issue was probably that the booking was done as group travel - even though you're not now part of a group. Apparently check-in for group travel can only be done at the airport rather than by any of the modern methods - internet, mobile phone, whatever.

No it hasn't been sorted out. Thanks for that. I figure that if I don't have a seat i will just stay for longer and the airline will put me up and I will tell you so you know when to collect me. Not the best ending to a trip but no real problem.
