Sounds like you are enjoying the food, even if the ferries leave something to be desired. The buses sound interesting. Does the rest of the traffic behave like the buses? If so, sounds like a good place not to be a driver.
The difference in floor level is to provide better sealing without using a snake or draft excluder. Serves the same purpose as the doorstops at the side of the door jamb.
It is a very good place not to be a driver! Narrow cobbled lanes, people parking anywhere, lots of roadworks. Yesterday we were going through a village (house walls defining each side of the road) when we met several buses coming the other way.they had to back to before the house they were passing.
