I knew that tulips originated somewhere near Turkey, but not they were the Turkish national flower Shouldn't have been surprised I guess. Sounds like the tulips would have been worth seeing. Better than Floriade?
They are different to floriade. There isn't the expanse of floriade - the biggest mass i saw was the carpet, which was really quite small by floriade standards - but just about all the median strips had patterns of tulips, and many trees had a square of tulips surrounding them. They are planted very close together and so are areally dense mass of flowers. Apart from the carpet, the plantings tend to be one flower. They also concentrate on real tulips - not the doubles - with pointy petals. Guzim says that they gave tulips to the Dutch as part of a cultural exchange.
Well to alay your fears the only thing wrong is travellers diahorrea. I went to the hospital to make sure that was it,and they gave me an iv dripv, and did some tests, which came back normal.
