Back

Well, I'm back. A pretty uneventful trip - bought chocolate (including Rocky Road), saw Justin and got some books, went to lunch on Sunday with the family for Mother's Day.

I guess that the most interesting part of the trip was that when I arrived at the A1 Lebanese Bakery the floor was all wet. I initially thought they'd been having a big clean-up or that the floor was being relaid, but it turns out that there was a lot of rain in Brunswick on Sunday night (didn't get much in Oak Park) and that the roof had leaked. No apparent damage as all the water seemed to have run down the wall, but they'd spent two hours getting rid of as much water as they could. They were having the building owner come to have a look at the roof later on Monday.

It's good that there was no serious damage to your nose - that would have been a less than good start to the second tour. As would have been the airport roof caving in.

It's also good that you have found someone you can get on with. With a tour name like Australians Studying Abroad there was always a chance that there would be plenty of people who are full of themselves.

  1. As usual I accidentally pressed the wrong button and my comment disappeared before I posted it! Ah well, I'll try again!

    Poor old A1 Lebanese bakery!

My nose has completely stopped bleeding. I had to straighten my glasses, but they are OK. I tripped over and was righting myself when someone else fell over me and pushed my head into the pavement!

Yesterday we went from Gaziantep. We had a cruise on the Euphrates and later dipped our feet into it. At one stage we passed a Syrian refugee camp on the Euphrates. We reached the hotel late - I think they miscalculated the time it took to get there. The hotel wasn't ready for us. In fact some rooms didn't exist and several bathrooms were not complete!

We just made it to see Mount Nimrod at sunset. When we got back they sorted out the rooms and several of us went to another hotel. It had beds, but my room didn't have hot water! We went up again for sunrise which was better as there was no snow on the eastern terrace and they had aligned the heads with the bodies.

  2. We are in sanliulfa about 60km from the Syrian border. They don't have two sheets on the bed. Only a tablecloth and acotton waffle blanket! And in my room things are faux! The refrigerator is locked behind a faux pictutrframe.

We have another thunderstorm tonight. Last night the thunderstorm caused the power to go out several times!
