  1. We were as close to the Syrian border as we will be today. We went to harran which is six kilometers from the border. Flat plains. Quiet. Couldn't believe that there was fighting so close. We passed another refugee camp on the way.

This morning we had a tour of the unopened archeological museum and the unopened mosaic museum. They were better than any other museums i have seen. The first had reconstructions of sites in the area going back more than 11 thousand years and articles from the sites including the oldest known human figure (this and the other articles were real).

The mosaic museum is a flying saucer built over the site of a Roman (Byzantine?) building which had extraordinary mosaics of the life of archilles and of the Amazon's. Although the mosaics are incomplete, each room of the villa had fantastic ones, and all rooms are represented. It was better than the grand palace mosaic!

Abraham had an interesting life. He was born in a cave here and was kept there until he was seven. Later the chief high poobar catapulted him from a sling between two columns of the castle. God created a pool while he was flying (i think he was also burning), and he ended up in a rose garden. It must be true as I have seen the cave, the pool, the rose garden and the columns!

  2. Actually I think there are two pools of Abraham. Once he was burnt on a bonfire and the pool formed and put out the fire and the fagots turned into carp. The other time was the columns and the rose garden. Very busy man!

Tonight I came to tea late so the only seat available was with two people i don't like. One is the superior person and the other is a worry wart who never understands anything.

Yesterday the superior person explained why it is good to get old. Taxi drivers reduce their fares when you cry. You can go anywhere and people don't get upset that you are there... She won't have her photo taken (and won't move out of the way), knows about everything and the last time it was so much better. She also wanders away regularly so we are always waiting for her to be sighted. As she misses what has been said, she wasn't told anything.

Those two on the one table was a very interesting combination.
