  1. Does that mean we get something special from them?

  2. People seem to put too much weight on travel. Seeing things is good, but you need to absorb them as well and travel is not living. It is just a diversion. Spending your retirement travelling just puts off living with yourself.

I am still thoroughly enjoying Turkey. We saw a pottery this morning and you only just missed out on receiving a tulip sculpture for the garden in traditional Turkish ware, with intricate decoration. It was beautiful! There are lots of demonstrations today and it took a while to get to the hotel because streets were closed.

  3. It's a three day holiday here, starting on mayday. Everywhere is full. All of cappadocia. We went to the museum of the whirling dervishes today and the crowds were horrendous.

Turkey is such a great place to visit. So many civilizations have been here. Yet they are reasonably well preserved. Today we visited The caravan sarai on the silk road between cappadocia and Konya. It is the biggest, and is well preserved. Our guide said that she recently visited Azerbaijan and was shown one there which only has its foundations remaining and was never as big. The soviets didn't leave much. The museum in ankara had so much stuff a lot of it is out in the open. The hotel we are in tonight has a Seljuk ceiling and gate behind glass in the foyer...

  4. Lentil soup is definitely a Turkish specialty. We have it for just about every meal, unless there is a different soup. Corn soup was awful. We have had chicken and tomato which were both very nice. Today I had a meat pie for lunch! Well it was meat and peas inside a sesame covered pastry. I also had lentil soup.
